EJ Banfield dropped out of society, took his wife and his dog and lived a solitary beach lifestyle on Dunk Island for 25 years in the early 1900's. I recently came across this picture of him.
A very smart and articulate guy but also a free thinking eccentric . He wrote several books about his life including 'The Confessions of a Beachcomber'.
'If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears'. (Thoreau)
I think in a different place and time he might have been a surfer.
